William Buckley was an English convict who was transported to Australia in the early 1800's for stealing cloth. He escaped and was given up for dead. Thirty-two years later he reappeared, alive and well, having lived amongst Aborigines on the Bellarine Peninsula. Buckley's survival is believed to be the source of the vernacular phrase "Buckley's" meaning "no chance", or "it's as good as impossible".
IRC Risk and Safety specializes in helping its clients understand and manage risk associated with operation of major hazard facilities. Realization of major hazards is not an every day occurrence and people often say to us, "that will never happen", or "it's as good as impossible". Buckley survived but tragically, this is not always the case. Consequences can have far reaching effect with respect to loss of life, damage to facilities, environmental impact and company reputation.
Fundamental aspects of IRC's approach are an in depth understanding of accident causes, solid engineering basis, and thorough and technically robust analysis, resulting in practical answers and recommendations.
We undertake a wide range of risk and safety management consultancy services, some of the more interesting of which are summarized on the Projects and Case Studies page. Services and areas of expertise include HSE Case/Safety Case development and implementation, HAZOP, HAZID, SIMOPS management, fire and explosion modeling (including CFD), fault tree analysis, quantitative risk analysis, layout reviews, strategies and plans for inherently safe design, design safety engineering, safety management system development, training, concept risk evaluations and RAM analysis. In fact, we have undertaken just about every type of risk assessment possible for the energy industry!
